What is a TFR Room? How many rooms can I have?

Rooms are the heart of The Family Room experience  — you have to be in a room to make a call and then talk, share, study, play games and more. So before you can start using TFR with other people, you need to create a room.

You can create as many rooms as you would like — and for each room you pick a name and decide who you want to invite to join. All room access is by invitation only to keep everyone safe.

How do I create a room?

Note: only Adult users can create Rooms; Child users cannot create Rooms.

  1. When you log into TFR for the very first time, you will see the My Rooms screen. To create your first Room, click on + Create New Room.

  2. Decide on and enter the Room Name — this name will be displayed for everyone who you invite to be part of the room.
  3. That’s it — you’ve just set up your first TFR room! Next, you may want to invite someone else to join you in your Room (see How do I invite people to join a room) or add your children to your Room (see How do I set up a TFR account for a child and Managing your Rooms below).
  4. If you only set up one room and have not been invited to join anyone else’s TFR room, when you log into TFR you will go straight to the welcome screen for your Room.
  1. If you are a member of more than one Room or you have invitations pending to additional Rooms, you will see the My Rooms screen on login.

  2. At any time you can create additional rooms by clicking My Rooms at the top right of the screen and repeating steps 2-4 above.

How do I manage my TFR rooms?

All Adult users who are members of a Room can view the details of that Room, including a complete list of members. If you are the person who created the room, you are the Room Owner and automatically have additional administrative controls.. Room Owners can manage which users are members of that Room and can delete the Room. As Owner, you can also grant the Owner role to other Adult members of your room so they can help administer the Room.

Note: Child users cannot see Room details or administer Rooms.

From the Room welcome screen

  1. After logging in or entering a Room from the My Rooms screen, you’ll see the Room welcome screen.
  2. Click on the icon next to the name of the room.
  3. On the Manage Rooms screen, you will see a list of all Rooms that you are a member of.

From the My Rooms screen

  1. Click on My Rooms in the upper right to see the My Rooms screen.
  2. Click on the icon next to My Rooms.
  3. On the Manage Rooms screen, you will see a list of all Rooms that you are a member of.

Room Owners

  1. For Rooms that you are an Owner of, you will see several administrative options for each Room.

  2. For more detail on how to invite users to a Room, see Inviting users to a Room below.
  3. To remove individual users from a Room, click on the icon to the right of their row in the list of users.
  4. To delete a Room completely, click on Delete in the lower right. This will delete the room for all users that are members of the Room, and users will no longer have access to that Room or its content.
  5. To make another Adult user a Room Owner, which will give them these same administrative controls, click on the user’s name in the list, then select Make Owner.

Adult Users

Adult users have limited control over Rooms of which they are not an Owner. However, they can still see a list of users for any Room they’re a member of.
