Invitations

How do I invite people to join a room?

Only the Room Owner — the person who set up the room —  can invite Adult and Child users to join the Room. The Room Owner can allow other Adult users to invite people to join but they must be granted permission to do so.

From the Room welcome screen

  1. Click on Invite in the middle of the screen. You can invite users by username or email address from this location. Additional options for inviting/adding users to Rooms are available on the Manage Rooms screen (see the next section for details.)

  1. Follow the instructions below to add users or send invitations.

From the Manage Rooms screen

  1. Go to the Manage Rooms screen (see Managing your Rooms above if you’re not sure how to do this.)
  2. Click on the row for the Room you want to invite users to and click Add at the bottom right.
  3. Follow the instructions below to add users or send invitations.

Inviting an Adult user

You can invite Adult users that already have a TFR account by their existing username or the email address associated with their account. Or, you can invite new users to TFR using their email address — they will be prompted to create a TFR account in order to accept your invitation.

  1. From the Room welcome screen, click on Invite; from the Manage Rooms screen, click on Invite User in the Add menu.
  2. Input the username or email address of the Adult user.
  3. Click Invite.

Inviting a Child user that is not managed by your account

  1. You can also invite Child users using either their TFR username or the email address of the Adult user who manages their account. Note: The Adult user who manages the Child account will need to accept the invitation (see Accepting/declining Room invitations below.) In the case of sending via the Adult’s email address, the Adult will be able to accept the invitation for themself, the Child, or both. It’s a good idea to let Adults know when you send their Child an invite so they know to accept it for the Child. Or, invite Child users directly via their username.
  2. Follow the instructions in the previous step, instead inputting either the TFR username of the Child or the email address of the Adult.
  3. Click Invite

Inviting a Child user that is managed by your account

  1. From the Manage Rooms screen, you can also add Child accounts you manage directly to Rooms that you’re an Owner of. Click on Add child in the Add menu.
  2. Click Add next to the Child you want to add to the designated Room.
  3. That Child is now automatically a member of the Room. You do not need to accept an invitation on their behalf.

Inviting by list (bulk/batch)

  1. From the Manage Rooms screen, you can also send invitations to a list of users at one time. First, prepare a file in CSV format containing the TFR usernames or email addresses of the users to invite in a single column. Note: CSV is a common spreadsheet format that can be exported from programs like Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
  2. On the Manage Rooms screen, click on Import List in the Add menu.
  3. Select the CSV file you have prepared.
  4. Confirm the usernames/email addresses appear as expected.
  5. Click Import. Room invitations will be sent to all users on your list.

How do I accept or decline Room invitations?

You can accept an invitation or decline room invitations for yourself and for any Child accounts you manage.

Note: Child accounts cannot accept or decline Room invitations; this must be done by the associated Adult user. Another way we are keeping things safe!

All pending Room invitations for you or your associated Child account(s) appear on your My Rooms screen.

Invitations for Adult users

  1. On the My Rooms screen, you will see a list of all pending invitations at the top of the page.
  2. To accept the invitation and join the Room, click on Accept for in the row for the relevant invitation.

  3. Check the box next to Myself.
  4. Click Accept at the bottom of the list.

Invitations for Adult/Child users

  1. Similar to the previous instructions, invitations sent to Adult users via username or email address can also be accepted by that Adult on behalf of any Child accounts they manage.
  2. Repeat the previous steps, but instead of checking the box next to Myself, select the relevant name of the Child account(s) who should be members of the designated Room.
  3. Click Accept at the bottom of the list.

Invitations for Child accounts

  1. Unlike the previous instructions, when invitations are sent directly to a Child using their TFR username, those invitations can only be accepted on behalf of that Child. These invitations also appear at the top of the My Rooms screen for the Adult user that manages the Child’s account, but they appear differently in that they specify the name of the specific Child who has received the invitation.
  2. To accept the invitation for the Child whose name is shown in the invitation, click on Accept to the right of the invitation notification.

Declining invitations

Simply click Decline next to any pending invitation to decline it. You will no longer be notified about this invitation. If this was done in error, the Room Owner who sent it will need to send a new invitation for you or your Child to join their Room.
