Are there different kinds of TFR accounts?
Yes! At The Family Room we like to have fun, and we also take safety and security very seriously. Given that, there are two kinds of accounts: Adult and Child. Everyone who uses TFR needs to have their own account.
Only individuals 16 years or older can create accounts for themselves, and these users are considered Adult users. Adult users have the ability to control access to Rooms, receive notifications, and manage video call controls.
Adult users have to create accounts for Child users.
How do I set up a TFR Adult account?
- Click on Sign Up on the login screen.
- Fill out the fields requested:
- Date of Birth: this information is to ensure you are at least 16 years old. It is not displayed in TFR.
- First Name and Last Name: enter your name as you would like it to appear to others in TFR. You will be identified by your first and sometimes last name to other users in various parts of TFR.
- Username: a unique username that can be used to identify you when logging in, managing Rooms, or sending invitations. Your username can only be used for a single user account.

- Password: must be at least 8 characters long, contain at least one number, and is case sensitive.
- Once you have completed the information above, click on Create Account.
- You will automatically receive an email containing a verification code at the email address you provided.
- Enter the provided code and click Verify.
- Your account is now created, and you can use the username and password you set to log in to The Family Room.
How do I set up a TFR account for a child?
All TFR accounts for children under the age of 16 must be created by an Adult TFR user and are permanently associated with that Adult’s account. Child users have their own username and password that they can use to log in to TFR, but all Room invitations and other notifications for the Child go to the Adult account holder. The Adult must accept or decline any invitations before a Child can become a member of a Room. Adults can also add Child accounts they manage directly to Rooms they are a Room Owner of.
- Click on the icon in the upper right corner of any screen.
- Select My account in the user menu.
- On the My account screen, click on + Add Child Account.
- Fill out the fields requested.
- First Name and Last Name: the Child’s name as you would like it to appear in TFR.
- Username: a unique username that can be used to identify the Child when logging in, managing Rooms, or sending invitations. The username can only be used for a single user account.
- Password: must be at least 8 characters long, contain at least one number, and is case sensitive.
- Display Name: the way you would like the Child’s name to appear to others in TFR.
- Date of Birth: ensures the Child is less than 16 years old and help TFR suggest content that will be most enjoyable for the child. The child’s birthday is not displayed in TFR.
- Click Create Account.
- Once you share the username and password with the child, they can log into TFR.
You can also now add the Child to Rooms.
